Sport/Hobby #2: Ballet

So we asked Arwen the other day if she wanted to sign up for soccer again. At first she said yes. Then she thought about it and said, "Actually, I want to do ballet." Soccer sign-ups are very soon but she has stuck to wanting to do ballet each time we ask her. We ask her multiple times to make sure. So we are researching dance studios out here and will be enrolling Arwen in ballet. She has gone to a ballet class wither her cousin Jayden at least once so she has an idea of what they do. I look forward to seeing her learn to dance. My little flower.

I'm a Nerd, this is my Daughter

I love Daddy Nerd Pride Moments. Today, Arwen turned on the Wii, Loaded the Wiimote into the Guitar Hero Guitar, put in Guitar Hero: World Tour and started playing. So awesome. Yesterday night Arwen chose, out of all the DVDs in the RedBox, Super Mario World cartoons. She had wanted it the last couple times we rented but it was checked out. She was so excited, when we got home she watched the whole thing twice. Earlier today she told me New Super Mario Bros Wii is her favorite game. Success!

BIG 5 YEAR OLD GIRL!!!!

Wow! I still can not believe another year has come and gone. Arwen has just turned 5. Bobby and I have reminsced about how 5 years ago I lay in the hospital shaking and in pain, but with this beautiful little girl by my side. It has just gone by soo fast. POOF! I watch videos shot in the hospital and when we took Arwen home and they make me teary eyed and long for those days again. We had a great Birthday Party for Arwen at Vinces Pizza. Everyone had a great time and we had a great turn out. She got some great "loot". Lots of new clothes and lots of toys. Thank you thank you thank you to everyone that came to celebrate this milestone in Arwens life. Now Christmas and New Years is right around the corner and Arwen is anticipating a visit from the Big Guy himself. :-) Hope everyone has a happy and safe Holiday season.

Much Needed Update

It has been such a long time since I have posted any updates on Arwen. She has been doing very well, growing leaps and bounds. A few not so good things happened to Arwen this summer: She was bit by a dog while looking at houses one day with my realestate agent. That wasreally horrible and scary. She then was afraid of ALL dogs. She has gotten alot better, but there is still an underlining apprehension when it comes to dogs. Arwen also had a bout of strep throat and a raging ear infection in the beginning of summer. Her throat and ear were hurting her so badly. I have never had to give ear drops before, she didn't care for that one bit. Ended up she had swimmers ear. She spent a great deal of time swimming this summer. We also went Cherry Picking. She enjoyed that for about 10 minutes. LOL! She got to eat as many cherries as she could possibly hold in her tummy. It was wierd for her though, to actually be allowed to pick something off a tree and then to be able to eat it. We also spent a great deal of time going to Magic Mountain. She loves all the rides that she can get on and can't wait til she is tall enough to go on the rest. She has absolutly no feat or apprehension about going on any of the rides. We went camping with my extended family, which was a blast as usual. Arwen loves to go camping. She got to try her hand at fishing. Also to round out the end of summer she has started soccer. She absolutly loves soccer, more then you can possibly imagine. At her first game she scored 7 goals, 5 for her team 2 for the other. LOL! Since the kids are so young, the coaches more or less teach them the bare bone basics. The whole lot of them basically split up into mini teams and play against each other. Once the player gets the ball, the idea of which way they are supposed to run just completely leaves their minds. So they score goals for each other all the time. We cheer them on none the less. Lots and lots of parent participation. Bobby "coached" for the team one week. I have yet to do it. I am sure my turn will come though. Its just the cutest thing in the whole world to watch. Arwen more or less looks at it as a play date, that we call soccer. When it is time to go she is upset that she can't play with her friends anymore. The first time caused many tears. Its getting better though, last weekend there were no tears when we had to leave. As she ages in her soccer "career" she will learn more about the rules and regulations, and play time will be longer then 5 minutes quarters. The teams will also consist of more then 3-4 players per side. They do play on regulation soccer fields that have been split into 4-5 mini soccer fields with little orange cones. Everything is on a minature scale. Really really cute.

Arwen has also taken up fishing (as previously stated). We bought fishing poles for Bobby and Arwen, hers is a Princess Fishing Pole (of course). Although they didn't catch anything, she really enjoyed it. We have since taken her to a small lake in town here and she caught herself 3-4 tiny fish. She even helped take it off the line and put it back in the water. She was not too keen on hooking the worms though, so Daddy had to do all of that. I certainly wasn't going to do it. YUCK!

She is doing very well in "school". SInce her birthday falls after the deadline for school, she has to wait a whole year before she can actually go to school. Her daycare does a wonderful job of schooling her. She is very bright and everyone that I talk to tells me that she will probably skip some grades. We work on spelling, writing and math. She still loves doing homework and flash cards. She also loves making homework for me to do as well as write stories. She has quite a few books that she has already written. Of course this entails me sitting there spelling every word for her. She is always happy when she comes to a word that she already knows how to spell though.

She is in a hurry to grow up. :-( I ask her why, and she tells me so I can cook. LOL! She is always more then willing to help me cook, stir or chop. She also loves to help me do laundry and fold clothes. She would just about do anything to help me, from making the beds to vacuuming to doing the dishes. I have so many people who tell me to relish this, as when she gets older she will not want to do any of it. Pretty typical. Alex doesn't ever really want to help me with much. She did when she was younger too though. Why do they have to grow up?

I have cherry picking, fishing and soccer photos that will be posted following this entry.

Sport/Hobby #1: Soccer

We have signed Arwen up for AYSO soccer. She will be starting practice and weekly games in September. We made sure to ask her multiple times before we signed her up to make sure she wanted to dedicate herself to practice and giving it all shes got. Each time she gave an enthusiastic "Yes" (except the one time she was in a bad mood and would have said no to an ice cream sundae if we asked). I am going to start teaching her about the game. I want her to watch some games on TV and I am looking into taking her to a Galaxy game. I'm looking forward to being a proud soccer Dad and referring lovingly to Cheryl as a Soccer Mom.

Dental Update

Well Arwen had her "Big" Dental Appt on Monday the 27th. She did EXCELLENT!!! A whole lot better then Mommy did. LOL! I was just beside myself with anxiety for her. I had to sit down and Daddy watched over the whole procedure. They did give her a sedative (HA! Just reminded me of Young Frankenstein) to help her relax. Im guessing it helped her a little bit, she seemed pretty normal to me. They ended up putting her on a table and strapping her down. Now that I think of it that sedative had to of relaxed her....there is no way she would of tolerated being strapped down if she wasn't relaxed. Anywho...they strapped her down and put this little contraption in her mouth to keep it open, and just went to work. The dentist, Dr. Grace Jung was fabulous. She is kind of a small lady, Asian, very non threatening. She really got down to her level. Talked to her about the "bugs" in her mouth and about farting....which you know, you talk about farts with a little kid and they giggle. Arwen had 7 cavities in her tiny mouth. None thankfully were bad enough for numbing. Dr. did them sooo fast. I couldn't even believe that the appt was over that fast. I don't even think I have ever had a filling be that quick. The whole experience, I don't think was tramatizing for Arwen. Thats the one thing I didn't want it to be. I love the dentist and so does Alex, so I definitly wanted to pass that along to Arwen. I really think that the next time they will not have to do that. She came out of the whole thing with 7 tiny silver fillings, a necklace, a tattoo, a balloon and a big smile on her face. Couldn't ask for more from a first time filling visit. Yay Arwen!!

Another Dental Visit

Arwen had another dental visit yesterday. This will be her third visit now. This time she was referred to a specialist who specializes in dealing with little kiddies. Poor little lamb has a total of 7 cavities that need to be filled. They pretty much range is size from very tiny to possibly needing baby root canals. I was bombarded with questions about her diet and what she drinks to how much she brushes a day. We do fail most of the time with brushing before she goes to bed (which we will do from now on) but we do brush every morning. Arwen will brush first then I will brush after her. I am pretty much at the point where I feel this is all my fault. While Arwen doesn't drink soda or eat alot of candies, she does drink alot of juice. Even though I still dilute it with water, it is too much for her little teeth. So from now on she is only allowed 4 ounces of juice a day. Measure it out, its a tiny amount. I will still dilute it with water (50%), so she will get 8 ounces of "juice" a day. Her next appointment is set for Monday the 13th of next month. That will be the day that she will have all those filled. We had talked with the dentist, and she sort of gave us the option to do a few at a time or just to go for it and get it all done at once. This may be somewhat of a tramatic experience for Arwen, as she didn't let the first dentist finish the work and with the specialist, she just kind of dopes them up (to help relax them) and gets the job done. I asked her how they keep their mouths open and she says they put this little plastic piece in their mouths that they bite on that keeps their mouths open. She says some patients after they take the medicine fall asleep. LOL! Some however have the complete opposite effect on them and makes them hyper or just "happy" and they want to talk the whole time. They also have a blanket that she will lay under. Bobby saw it, I was with Arwen while she had her X-Rays taken again. She did really really good at that. I am assuming this blanket is something that sort of keeps them "tied" down. I have soooo much empathy for Arwen. It just makes me want to cry for her. She is sooo tiny in this big ol chair with all this stuff in her mouth, along with a couple sets of hands. Its very over whelming. BUT......I do know that it has to be done. I know that she will survive and all will be well. I am just hopping that this doesn't scar her for the rest of her life on dentists. I love going to the dentist and I want her to love it too. Alex has always been easy to take to the dentist...and she loves the dentist too. Never was scared and I didn't have to go through any of this with her. So wish us luck for the 13th. :-)
